The Egyptian Lighthouse of Chania is located at the entrance of the Old Port and was originally built in the 16th century by the Venetians and later reconstructed by the Egyptians during the period 1830-40. It is one of the oldest lighthouses in the world and has an oktagonal base, the middle part has 16 angles, while the top part is circular. It has a height of 21m above sea level and its light reaches a distance of 7 nautical miles.
