Coconut groves, lush vegetation and the multi-coloured lagoon
InterContinental Lifou Wadra Bay Resort

Destination

Isolated and undeveloped, Lifou is a hotspot of incredible biodiversity waiting to be explored. Soaring cliffs of ancient coral pitted with watery caves rise above white sandy beaches and fringing reefs, while the interior is covered in pristine forests.

Things to do

The beaches of Wadra Bay

Baie de Wadra, Tribu de Mou, Lifou, Îles Loyauté 98820

Once you have explored the resort’s own secluded beach, head south along Wadra Bay to discover more perfect sandy beaches and sheltered lagoons. Stroll along Tamanou Beach south of the resort, or venture to crescent-shaped Olan Beach (Turtle Beach) for excellent snorkelling. Stop in at the pretty park at Ahmelewedr Beach to view the monument commemorating the arrival in Lifou of the first missionaries in 1842, and continue along the bay to find even more swimming and snorkelling spots.

Luengöni Beach

Luengöni Beach, Tribu de Mou, Lifou, Îles Loyauté 98820

One of the most photogenic beaches on Lifou, Luengöni Beach is a short drive north of the resort. Stretch out on the white powdery sand and gaze out the two tiny coral islets in the little bay, or strap on your snorkelling gear to explore the fringing reef protecting the serene turquoise waters from the force of the ocean.

The cliffs of Xodré

Xodré Cliffs, Tribu de Mou, Lifou, Îles Loyauté 98820

A series of fossilised coral formations at the southern end of Wadra Bay, the Xodré cliffs offer an unforgettable hiking experience. Seek out watery grottoes carved out of the coral by the relentless waves, swim in sheltered rock pools and gaze out across the open ocean to distant islands. Join a guided tour to learn of the many legends associated with this dramatic terrain.

Wé Markets

Wé, Lifou, Îles Loyauté 98820

Join locals shopping for freshly picked produce at the municipal markets at Wé, the largest town on the island. Indulge in a French-style treat such as a coconut tart or slice of fragrant cake as you browse handicrafts like sandalwood carvings and coconut-oil soap. And look out for exotic fruit such as pakai (also known as ice-cream bean), a long pod that reveals deliciously sweet, fluffy segments. From 7.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday.

ONO Factory

Tribu de Qanono, Wé, Lifou, Îles Loyauté 98820

Browse a curated selection of colourful clothing, accessories, jewellery and handicrafts by Lifou artisans, pick up a jar of sublime organic honey created on-site by bees feeding on the surrounding avocado and lychee blossoms, or snap up a tin of organic extra-virgin coconut oil lip balm at this intriguing boutique by designer and beekeeper Patricia Itrema on the shores of Chateaubriand Bay, around a 30-minute drive north of the resort.
