The Canals walking tour

Enjoy a lovely walk around the nearby canals. Dating largely from the 17th Century Golden age era and part of UNESCO World Heritage, these series of concentric, semi-circular canals (grachten) were dug around the old city centre with the houses, mansions and warehouses situated along them. They were built on wooden piles to cope with the marshy subsoil and are gradually sinking, providing a fascinating sight.
