Disappointed stay

Everything was fine from the beginning. I managed to get a room with early check-in but the bad thing happened at late night when I was going for bed. A strong smoking smell came to my room and affected the quality of sleep on the night. Despite the front desk sent an air purifier machine to my room but it took time to get rid of the smell. Not a happy stay.

I really enjoyed the stay at HUALUXE. The check in process was quick and easy, with a free upgrade being the elite platinum member. The room was large and clean. The buffet breakfast was elaborate with both traditional Chinese and Western food items. Location was convenient to lots of coffee shops and bars, as well as the #1 metro station. I will definitely stay again when I am in Shanghai.

Guys
I stay there a lot. In using the steam and sauna every time I come one or more things are out of order. On this trip EVEYTHING except the sauna was out of order. Please do better or I will have to stay somewhere else.
Second I called room service before 7pm and was told the dish I wanted had sold out!
Sleep disturbed by morning noise

Stayed in Hualuxe at a recent stay in Shanghai. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a nice inner courtyard. The hotel has several positives, but there are also some negatives that one cannot overlook.
Positives - the hotel is just next to the MRT station, and so getting around is really easy. The surrounding area of the hotel is quiet and enjoyable to walk around looking at the old mansions. The hotel room and bathroom is large and the bed is comfortable. The buffet breakfast has a good selection of local and western dishes and has an egg station which cooks eggs to your liking on demand - something I hardly find in other 5 stars hotel.
Negatives. If you are given a room facing the next building, be prepared for truck loading noises in the early morning. This was loud enough to wake us up. Secondly, the pillows are too soft to provide good neck support. Thirdly, the staff could be more friendly and proactive with guests, such as helping with the luggage or offering help for transport to the airport. Fourthly, the toiletries supplied could be more generous compared to the small bottles (especially when room is occupied by 2 guests). Lastly, the electronic light controls in the room takes some time to master.

Location of this hotel is great, within walking distance to old town and a lot of great places, very near to Line 1 train. I am very disappointed with this hotel cleanness and quality, with the “Luxury Collection” it is absolutely not worth the price and title, why? The shower area walls are all grown with moulds, the silicone of handle, rainforest shower water outlet and corners, all over. I never stayed in any of IHG hotel with this clean levels. Also, I am not convinced to use the bathtub. Floor mat has long hairs in it, bear in mind I have short hairs.
Unacceptable hygiene

On the third day of my stay, I found a lighter in the bathrobe pocket. This was completely unacceptable. I don’t smoke, so how did a lighter end up there? The only explanation is that the bathrobe was not replaced and was simply reused from a previous guest. When I brought this up to the front desk, they insisted that all bathrobes are changed after each guest, which I found quite ridiculous.

Location is perfect. Room cleanliness is terrible. I stayed about 80 nights every year and this hotel is the only one where all staff include the supervisors (the man in black suit with short hair) of breakfast restaurant were happily chatting with each other while serving guests, which was unbelievable and unprofessional. The service of happy hour was also terrible that they didn’t even mentioned last order. Never visit again.

I've always wanted to stay at this hotel since it opened, and I just did last month while traveling back to Shanghai. The property is maintained in good condition, and the location is amazing, as the subway station is just below the property. There are amazing restaurants around the hotel, and the most classic and exotic neighborhood in Shanghai. I particularly like the food and beverage service the hotel offered, including the breakfast and welcome drink options. Look forward to coming back soon!
