The museum was built by the county in 1950 to collect, preserve and interpret the history of the area.
The museum features both changeable and permanent displays that detail the county's history. Among those displays is a Native American Gallary, Trappers Gallary & mining Exhibits.
The outdoor portions of the museum displays five buildings dating from 1856 to 1920 & a research library allows the public to peruse photographs, manuscripts, books, newspapers, mapls and more.
