The museum was built by the county in 1950 to collect, preserve and interpret the history of the area. The museum features both changeable and permanent displays that detail the county's history. Among those displays is a Native American Gallary, Trappers Gallary & mining Exhibits. The outdoor portions of the museum displays five buildings dating from 1856 to 1920 & a research library allows the public to peruse photographs, manuscripts, books, newspapers, mapls and more.

The Chinese Cemetery is northeast of YReka on Hwy 3. During the Gold Rush, Yreka had a substantial Chinese population, but by the 1940s, the population had mostly disappeared. Construction of I-5 in the 1970s led to the final destruction of the old Chinatown with the exception of the small Chinese cemetery. The Chinese Cemetery features a kiosk with plagues that twll the history of the Chinese people who lived in the area and lists all of the individuals who were laid to rest.

The largest gold display of south of Alaska is featured in the Siskiyou County Courthouse in Yreka. Gold was discovered on Yreka flats by Abraham Thompson in March 1851. Within six months, more than 5,000 miners descended upon Yreka and before long, the Yreka Flats were referred to as the richest square mile oon the face of the earth. Estimates are that $60million in gold was mined from Yreka area. The display can be seen during regular business hours at the main entrance the courthouse.
