Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area

The Flaming Gorge NRA is located in the northeast corner of Utah and the southwest corner of Wyoming. It is South of I-80, between Green River and Rock Springs, Wyoming and extends into the Uintah Mountains towards Vernal, Utah. Consult the monthly calendar of events posted on the web or in the district office of the National Forest in Manila, Utah and at the Red Canyon Visitor’s Center for scheduled activities, classes of interest, and special events.

McConkie Ranch Petroglyphs

Located just north of Vernal, at McConkie Ranch, the Dry Fork Canyon petroglyphs are famous for their quality and accessibility. These panels cover 200 feet of cliff face in the Navajo formation. This gallery of primitive art dating from 1-1200 A.D. shows excellent examples of the Fremont Native American culture. The petroglyphs are located on private land. Access is granted to those who treat the artwork with respect.

Fantasy Canyon

Fantasy Canyon is a Bureau of Land Management-managed area located about 27 miles south of Vernal, in Uintah County, Utah. Even though the area is only about 10 acres in size, it contains some of the most unusual geologic features in the world.

Moonshine Arch

Moonshine Arch is a 1.4 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Vernal, Utah that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.

Pink Brontosaurus

Dine A Ville Pink Dinosaur. "Dinah" was built by George Morrill in 1958 to advertise his Dine-A-Ville Motel. When it closed in 1999 the pink dinosaur was moved to a hilltop on the east end of town, where she began a second career as a welcome sign for Vernal.
