Historic Market Square

Just a few blocks up Santa Rosa St. from the hotel is El Mercado or Market Square. Almost every weekend there is a festival with food booths and live music. If not, don't worry, there are great mexican restaurants with strolling mariachi's taking requests. The two markets have jewelery, clothing, toys, pinatas and other great souviners. So do some shopping and then relax with a margarita and enjoy the mariachis.

Spanish Governor's Palace

Just a few blocks east from the Market Square on Commerce St. is the Spanish Governor's Palace. Take a few minutes to enjoy this peaceful oasis. This humble palace dates from the 1700's and illustrates the life style of the time. Sit beside the fountain in the courtyard to cool off and rejuvinate. There is a small admission fee. Open daily except major holidays.

Tower of the America's

Built for Hemisfair, the 1968 World's Fair, this tower offers a great view of the city from the observation deck. Or enjoy lunch or dinner in the rotating restaurant. Watch the sunset with a cocktail in the bar. There is a gift shop and snack bar at the base of the tower as well.

The Buckhorn Saloon & Museum

So this is your first time in Texas and you haven't seen a cowboy or a horse? Well pardner this is your lucky day! Stop by the Buckhorn Saloon, belly up to the bar for a root beer. Then take the tour of the famous collection of wild animals and oddities. Don't forget to pick up a coonskin hat in the gift shop for the kiddies.
