Chapala Lake

Regional Museum

The building currently occupied by the museum was started around 1743. Its original use was as the College of Saint Joseph Seminary. During the War of Independence was the headquarters of the insurgent troops and Spanish prison. As Museum of Fine Arts opens on November 10, 1918. Its founder and first director was John Ixca Farías. It is part of the National Institute of Anthropology and History from its inception in 1939.
