Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park commemorates the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Chancellorsville Campaign encompassing the battles of Chancellorsville, Second Fredericksburg, and Salem Church, the Battle of the Wilderness, and the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House.

This bronze statue of General Mercer was erected in 1906 by the US government. The sculptor was Edward Valentine of Richmond, who did the famous reclining statue of Robert E. Lee at Washington and Lee University. Mercer, a general in the Revolutionary War, was killed at the Battle of Princeton in 1777. General George S. Patton of World War II fame was a great, great grandson of Hugh Mercer

The James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library, located in historic downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia, is the largest repository in the country for artifacts and documents related to the fifth president of the United States. The museum was first opened in 1927 by Monroe descendants as a place to house their own personal collections, which had been handed down through generations of the family.

The National Marine Corps Museum, opened to the public on November 13, 2006, as a tribute to U.S. Marines, a stateof the art museum that uses interactive technology, multi-media exhibits and thousands of artifacts to bring to life the values, mission, and culture of the Marine Corps.
