The Imperial Cathedral

Although the cathedral never served as an episcopal church, it was the venerable site of the coronation of Roman emperors and is an important historical landmark of the city. Our insider tip: the cathedral's viewing terrace. The ascent of 318 steps to the platform at a height of 66 metres is a bit of a challenge, but well worth the effort. For just EUR 3 admission, you can enjoy the best view of the entire city - an experience reminiscent of the New York skyline.

Goethe House

As the bells tolled noon’ is how Johann Wolfgang von Goethe describes his birth on 28. August 1749 in ‘Poetry and Truth’. Today, the Goethe House and the Goethe Museum stand on the site of his birthplace. The 17th century building was destroyed by bombs in the Second World War. Nevertheless, the house has been faithfully restored to the original. The furnishings of the kitchen, living room and reception rooms correspond to bourgeois life of the Late Baroque period.

City Hall (Roemer)

For more than 6 centuries, Frankfurt’s destiny has been directed from the patrician houses on the Römerberg. Like most of her predecessors, the municipal leader lives above the Schwanenhalle, with a beautiful view of St. Paul’s Church. In 1405, the city council purchased the buildings at the Römer from the merchant Kunz for “800 guldens of good Frankfurt currency in cash”. Over the years, nine buildings and several inner courtyards have been added to form the present-day Römer complex.

Palmengarten (botanical garden)

The Palmengarten is a trust established by the citizens of Frankfurt in 1868. On 50 acres, the gardens display numerous beautiful and interesting plants throughout the year. In addition, the Palmengarten offers a variety of recreational activities including guided tours, summer concerts, evening festivals etc. The Palmengarten is worth a visit at any time of the year. Deutsche Boerse (stock exchange)

In the course of the stock exchange boom, the first stock exchange bell rang at the Frankfurt am Main stock exchange in 1585. Since then, Frankfurt has developed into a powerful financial center with a large number of major banks of both domestic and foreign origin. This is why Frankfurt is also jokingly referred to as “Mainhattan”, the Manhattan on the Main. Although there are seven other stock exchanges in Germany, Frankfurt ranks first in terms of importance and turnover.

Hauptwache (City Centre)

The Hauptwache is certainly one of the most famous places in Frankfurt, where many things come together: Trade, culture and church, historical and contemporary, work and leisure. Built in its baroque form around 1730, it was a military guardhouse with pillory and prison. Located in Frankfurt am Main's city forest in the Sachsenhausen district, it opened in 1925 and underwent significant modernization for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Renovated as a pure soccer stadium, it boasts a capacity of 58,000 spectators, making it the seventh largest in Germany.
