The lake known as the "Crappie Fishing Capital of the World" has other fish to boast about these days; largemouth bass and striped bass are making a name for themselves.

Ft Payne Depot Museum

This beautiful pink sandstone Richardson Romanesque architecture 1891 depot was operated by the Alabama Great Southern Railroad. It served as a train station until 1970. It now houses railroad memorabilia, Dioramas handcrafted back in 1913, Indian Artifacts, local history and more!

Fort Payne Opera House

The Fort Payne Opera House was built on Gault Avenue North during the city's industrial boom in 1889. It is the only one in the State of Alabama still in use. The establishment has been used as a movie theatre, live theatre and a public forum. The Opera House still hosts live theatrical events The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and the National Register of 19th Century Theatres in America. Completely restored, the Opera House is a cultural center of the community.
