Meadow Brook Hall is the fourth largest historic house museum in the United States and is renowned for its superb craftsmanship, architectural detailing and grand scale. Built between 1926 and 1929 as the residence of Matilda Dodge Wilson (widow of auto pioneer John Dodge) and her second husband, lumber broker Alfred G. Wilson, the 110-room, 88,000-square-foot, Tudor-revival style mansion is complete with vast collections of original art and furnishings.

Olde World Canterbury Village, a designated historical landmark in the State of Michigan, extends over 21 acres. It is host to 18 specialty shops and wonderful features. Waterford Oaks Waterpark has a tropical-theme wave pool with palm trees and shallow-end bubbler fountains. Those who created the Society in 1911 included men from some of the city's most respected families: Alger, Larned, Bagley, Joy, Chalmers, Denby, Ford. By 1912, the group was sufficiently organized and financed to hire Richard E. Follett, a zoologist and naturalist from New York City, as its secretary. He ran the day-to-day operations and would become a central figure in the Detroit Zoo's development during the next 15 years.
