Richly detailed exhibits in the Civil Rights Institute reveal slices of black and white life in Alabama from the late 1800s to the prents. A series of galleries tells the stories of daily life for African-Americans in the state and nation and how dramatically different it was from the lives of other people of that era took for granted.

The Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame (AJHoF) was founded in 1978, and opened a museum on September 18, 1993, with a mission "to foster, encourage, educate, and cultivate a general appreciation of the medium of jazz music as a legitimate, original and distinctive art form indigenous to America. Its mission is also to preserve a continued and sustained program of illuminating the contribution of the State of Alabama through its citizens, environment, demographics and lore, and perpetuating the heritage.

The gardens are home to over 12,000 different types of plants, 25 unique gardens, more than 30 works of original outdoor sculpture, and several miles of walking paths.[2] With more than 350,000 annual visitors,[1] the Birmingham Botanical Gardens qualify as one of Alabama's top free-admittance tourist attractions. The gardens include a garden center that has a library, auditorium, Linn-Henley Lecture Hall, Blount Education Center, Gerlach Plant Information Center.

The state-of-the-art science center, aquarium and 280-seat IMAX Dome Theater. Inside are more than 9,000 square feet (800 m2) of interactive exhibits, including the Challenger Learning Center of Alabama, created in memory of the Space Shuttle Challenger Flight 51-L crew. On the lower level there is The World of Water exhibit showcasing more than 50 species of marine life.There is a touch tank with different species of small sharks and rays.

The Birmingham Zoo is a zoological park that opened in 1955 in Birmingham, Alabama. The 122-acre zoo is home to almost 800 animals.

Barber Motorsports Park is an 880-acre racing facility in Birmingham, Alabama. It was built by George W. Barber and includes the 230,000-square-foot Barber Vintage Motorsport Museum. It has been the site of the IndyCar Series' Grand Prix of Alabama since 2010.

Legion Field Stadium, also affectionately known as the “The Old Gray Lady”, was completed in 1927 as a 21,000 seat venue. The stadium now seats 71,000. The stadium was named Legion Field in honor of the American Legion. Once famously known for playing host to the Iron Bowl, UAB Blazers and 1996 Olympic soccer matches, the stadium is the site for the Magic City Classic.
