The Roanoke Star, also known as the Mill Mountain Star, is the world's largest freestanding illuminated man-made star. After construction of the star, Roanoke was nicknamed "Star City of the South". The overlook is a great place to have a picnic, relax and read a book or enjoy the trails for both hiking and biking. The Mill Mountain Star is illuminated each night until midnight, but to take full advantage of the views, visitors may want to consider an afternoon visit. Park closes at 9:00 pm

River’s Edge Park is a large park in Roanoke. With the Roanoke River running through the center, the two park sections are commonly referred to as River’s Edge South and River’s Edge North. With two large baseball diamonds, 16 newly renovated, ADA accessible tennis courts and athletic fields, River’s Edge is a very popular park in Roanoke. Conveniently situated along the Roanoke River Greenway, the park is easily accessible by car, foot or bicycle.

The Salem Civic Center, the hub of the James E. Taliaferro Sports and Entertainment Complex, became a part of Salem’s landscape October 1967. For more than 50 years, the 7,000 seat facility has welcomed a who’s who of entertainment’s brightest stars to its stage. The Civic Center currently is the home of the ODAC men's and women's basketball championship.

The National D-Day Memorial is a war memorial located in Bedford, Virginia. It serves as the national memorial for American D-Day veterans. However, its scope is international in that it states, "In Tribute to the valor, fidelity and sacrifice of Allied Forces on D-Day, June 6, 1944" and commends all Allied Armed Forces during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944, during World War II.

Nestled in a suburban area of Cave Spring, Garst Mill Park follows the path of Garst Mill Stream for about a mile. Several bridges cross the stream, to provide access to many park amenities. The Garst Mill Greenway is a beautiful paved walking path which runs the length of the park. Public pickleball courts are available complimentary.

The 37th state park was dedicated on September 24, 2016, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark in 1988. At the center of the park, the 200-foot tall Natural Bridge sits in a limestone gorge carved out by Cedar Creek. The park is more than just the Bridge; lush forests and rolling meadows showcase the area's karst terrain and vistas of surrounding mountains, and the James River valley competes with the Bridge itself.
