Mill Mountain Star

The Roanoke Star, also known as the Mill Mountain Star, is the world's largest freestanding illuminated man-made star. After construction of the star, Roanoke was nicknamed "Star City of the South". The overlook is a great place to have a picnic, relax and read a book or enjoy the trails for both hiking and biking. The Mill Mountain Star is illuminated each night until midnight, but to take full advantage of the views, visitors may want to consider an afternoon visit. Park closes at 9:00 pm
