In July 1904 a national historic site was opened here in Peterborough Ontario. It is a national historic site because it is the highest hydraulic lift lock in the world that is designed to lift boats 19.8 meters. The lift Lock continues to function as part of the Trent–Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada under the management of Parks Canada. Located beside the Holiday Inn Peterborough Waterfront is the office for the Lift Lock Boat Cruises, you can stay with us and set sail.

Although the Museum is currently closed until late summer to early Fall 2023, they are highly anticipating the biggest move in history as they open the doors to the brand new Canadian Canoe Museum which will have 600 watercrafts and 500 paddles with hundreds of artifacts and archives to share.
