The MKG Arts and Crafts Fair has been running annually since 1879 when the Museum of Arts and Crafts (MKG) began inviting craftsmen and international designers to showcase their work here. The intent has always been to celebrate traditional craft heritage as well as current practices in arts and crafts trends. Featuring textile arts and furniture design as well as goldsmithing and silversmithing, the MKG Arts and Crafts Fair awards one exhibitor the Incentive Prize by vote of an international jury, which features a grant of €2,500.

Taste traditional foods like currywurst sausages, traditional Hamburg herring sandwiches, sauerkraut and corn on the cob. Enjoy countless sweets, including licorice, cotton candy and roasted almonds before visiting the haunted houses, riding the bumper cars and trying your luck with the fortunetellers. Of course, you can't leave the DOM Fun Fair without taking an order of the schmalzkuchen. The bite-sized doughnuts will melt in your mouth, fresh from the fryer with powdered sugar and chocolate on top. If you're lucky, you might even find a witches' village where you can find a jug of medieval mead.

Port Anniversary

St. Michael's Church: Quarter of Neustadt, Hamburg, Germany


With such an important functioning port, the city of Hamburg celebrates its birthday each year with the Port Anniversary event. The entire weekend is booked solid with over 200 individual events scheduled both on and off the port. The Grand Arrival Parade showcases the arrival of 300 sea vessels, including cruise ships, traditional sailing yachts and historic ships. Water parades with steam ships, motor yachts and sailing ships as well as staged sea-rescue missions and dragon boat races are entertaining water exercises you'll be able to witness.

 

A yearly Tugboat ballet and AIDA fireworks show can be enjoyed from land, in addition to live music performances on ten different stages throughout the city. With over a million local and visitors attending the Port Anniversary each year, this is a grand event that will entertain everyone. There's even a children's festival by St. Michael's Church.

HASPA Marathon

The HASPA Marathon started off as the Hamburg Marathon, but the name change hasn't changed the individuality of the race. Racing through the parks, along the port and through the center of the city, you experience all of Hamburg while trying to break the race record of two hours, five minutes, and thirty seconds. No qualifying race is needed to register. Just be physically able and over the age of 18.

Each summer, this international tennis tournament is held in Hamburg, accruing points for the professionals. Stadtpark Revival

Catch the vintage car and motorcycle races at the Stadtpark Revival races. Starting in 1999, this annual event honors the original races held in the Stadtpark. With 14 classes of vehicles racing, from 1903 to 1949 motorcycles and 1963 to 1976 Formula V cars, you'll enjoy watching the old-timers race at the new City Nord location. The 1.6 km-long roundtrack features pedestrian bridges and terraces, so you'll always have great views of the action. You can even inspect the vehicles at Oldtimerparkplatz, which is adjacent to the race venue.
