Historic Downtown La Crosse

Mississippi River / Riverside Park

Riverside Park has been opened since 1911, originally called Levee Park and is located off the Mississippi River and in downtown La Crosse. Riverside Park is well known for hosting Riverfest, the Rotary lights, being a docking station for the Mississippi Queen and the Julia Bell Swain, and being home to an annual 4th of July fireworks celebration. In addition, the park offers trails, open spaces, and plenty of areas to sit and enjoy the river.

Pump House Regional Arts Center

On July 29, 1979 the Pump House was designated an historic building and was placed on the State and National Register; in February of 1981, the city of La Crosse authorized a long-term lease with WWRA insuring that the Pump House remain a regional arts center. In 1977 Western Wisconsin Regional Arts obtained the lease to restore and remodel the Pump House for its present use as a regional arts center for the visual and performing arts, and as a meeting and working area for member organizations.

Great River Road Bike Trail

The trail runs along some of the most beautiful scenic areas of the state along the Mississippi river. Touring cyclists can ride the entire Wisconsin segment or choose smaller segments that are better suited to their experience level. The route has been mapped for 250 miles in Wisconsin and is located primarily on the Great River Road (WIS 35) between Prescott and Prairie du Chien.

Myrick Hixon Ecopark / Granddad's Bluff

is a mesa on the east side. It is the highest point in La Crosse County. Grandad Bluff is approximately 590 feet above the surrounding land. 1010ft (308 m) above sea level. Grandad Park opened in 1912. Grandad Bluff is the largest bluff in the La Crosse area and is well-known for its scenic overlook of La Crosse. In addition to enjoying the breath-taking view, you can explore several bluffside hiking trails. Since the top of Grandad Bluff can be seen from most points in the city.

Black River Public Beach

Black River Public Beach is a section of coastline boasting lots of amenities, and it is a fun place for young and old. The way the water meets such a scenic slice of coastline is a sight worth seeing. The Beach is located on the Northside of La Crosse. This beach is well known for the Polar Plunge which takes place in the Winter. During the summer, you can swim, fish, play volleyball, take your boat out on the river, and enjoy the open area. There also is a bath house and restrooms.

La Crosse Loggers Baseball

Started in 2003, the La Crosse Loggers are a summer collegiate franchise in the Northwoods League. The Loggers play all their home games at Copeland Park, aka "The Lumberyard". Over the last seven season the Loggers have had 37 players play in professional baseball with two making the Major Leagues in Max Scherzer and Daniel Ray Herrera. The La Crosse Loggers are one of two summer collegiate franchises in the country to draw over 100,000 fans for five consecutive seasons

La Crosse Queen Cruises

The La Crosse Queen is a modern-day replica of the grand river boats that plied the Mississippi River in the late 19th Century. Cruising out of LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN, she is one of the few authentic Mississippi River paddlewheel river boats still in operation in the country today. In keeping with early traditions, she was built with sternwheels that are her only means of propulsion. There are River Boat Sightseeing, Captains Sunday Brunch, Fri/Sat/Sun Dinner, Cocktail, and Moonlight cruises.

Pearl Street Brewery

Pearl Street offers brewery tours. Pearl Street started the brewery in downtown La Crosse on Pearl Street in a basement with a tiny seven-barrel subterranean brewhouse. Over time, we developed a tradition of brewing carefully hand-crafted award-winning ales and lagers. Since then, we’ve grown into a larger 30 barrel brewery and moved up to the North side in the historic La Crosse Footwear building on Saint Andrew Street.
