Fort Cavazos, located in the greater Killeen area, is the world's third-largest U.S. military base. With its base dating back to 1942, Fort Cavazos is rich in U.S. Army history. It was once a site to test and train tank destroyers during World War II.

Texas A&M University–Central Texas is a public university in Killeen, Texas. It is one of the newest members of The Texas A&M University System. Founded in 1999 as a branch of Tarleton State University, it became an independent member of the Texas A&M University System in September 2009.
